Painting - Acrylic On Metal Utility Box
Description
My first Public Art Project was for two locations on El Paseo, in Palm Desert. The metal boxes often contain computers and require a light palette to avoid over-heating the metal and cooking the computer boards.
In painting this, I selected the "smoketree, indigenous to our desert, palest green gray spikes, looking like puffs of smoke. Included in the landscape painting was Yucca and Brittle bush with bright yellow daisy-like flowers. Brittle Bush was also named by the Padre's in the 1800's, "Incensio," which they used as Incense once they ran out of their supply from Spain.

Wonderfully done, I think you are the only artist who could make a metal box look so good. Excellent work. f

I thank you, Usha. The interesting part is that this landscaping behind the Utility box has been changed to look exactly as the painted Box looks.. The Decomposed Granite is the same color with many of the same plants put in.. First it was art imitating nature, now it is nature imitating art. Rather fun

Thank you, Donna. B of A is on the corner and they took out their "Grass" and installed a desert scape that matches the Utility box exactly Art imitating nature then nature imitating art. Fun.

Thank you, Annemeet. Painting them was a wonderful experience in meeting the community morning after morning.

Thank you, Paul and Hazel. Inside the utility boxes are computers that control the traffic signals. The soft palette draws less heat to the metal and prevents frying the computer boards... Our desert supports the color choices because that is how it appears.. Your compliments thrill this artist's heart!
