"ART, something I always wanted as part of my life, HAS become a passion that fills my soul, and leaves me full of joy, one brushstroke at a time." Maria Hunt After 30 years as a successful business woman, Maria Hunt, finding the nest empty, and having fulfilled her role as financial contributor, retired to the Palm Springs area, pursuing her childhood dream of studying and creating art. She started in 2000 with art classes at College of the Desert. She refined her skills in plein air painting by attending workshops across the U.S. The years left to get "really good" at art are diminishing, and her focus is laser sharp. Fascinating to me, too, RJ is that they were able to pinpoint the headwaters of the Mississippi.... back in 1779... . I am amazed by this map.

If you place your cursor on the great lakes for the system to zoom in, you'll see that Lake Michigan was previously Lake Illinois. I love the state lines are so different from those of today. Frozen Ocean and "Great Parts Unknown" are fun. Thank you for your comments. I have enjoyed the map but have put it up for sale.

You are an amazing man, RJ. I have to see your maps one day... Like you, I am intrigued with the works of mapping our world!! Thank you so much...

Hi Maria! Oh oh!---- I love maps and purchased 2 ea. 241 year old maps for my children's series and posted them in my mpa gallery. Yep they could be the only two I'll ever own. I purchased a Switzerland ( for William Tell) and a Britain (for the Robin Hood). It was not so much that they were old as they were beautiful. You have a great one here. We could end up collecting these darn things. FAV

When you are curious about an area, you can zoom in on it... the five "great lakes" include "Illinois" rather than Michigan.. It is un to explore

I was assured the map was well over 100 years old. The creases remain but it has been restored.
Reynold Jay
I like old maps like this too, Maria. I imagine if I had found it I would have purchased it like you. I can see it is most likely a reproduction as it doesn't look to be centuries old. Thank you for sharing this with us.
