Description

One of the true pleasures of our Winter months, here in the desert, is to pack up the easel, paints and hiking shoes. The Whitewater Preserve has Mt. San Gorgonio to the West and Mt. San Jacinto to the South and Palm Springs 10 miles East. The preserve has the Whitewater river running through it. The Smoke trees and the Tamarisk trees dot the landscape. The sage-like leaves of "Brittle Bush" were used by the Spanish Padres when they ran out of Incense. They appropriately named the bush, "Incienso." It's pale grey blue leaves contrast nicely with the grey-green Tamarisk. Brittlebush has bright yellow, daisy-like flowers on stems about 6 inches above the actual bush, making the blue gray bush look like its wearing a wide-brimmed yellow hat.
