Description
I was commissioned to paint 36in high and 90 ft around mural in a train room in Palm Desert, CA. The retired Pilot (& Viet Nam Vet) with a passion for Trains, Planes and Automobiles had this dream for 30+ years. After years of design and planning, he put in the wall board, painted it blue, and sought an artist to create the backdrop with a theme: Desert scape all around, multiple level tracks, San Gorgonio pass at sunset, cumulus clouds on the left with rainstorm and lightning storm, mountain pass around to the Salton Sea at the far end.
Before the banks along the tracks, the villages, trees and landscaping could go in, the backdrop needed completing. . walking along boards over the structure. ,, climbing on platforms and crawling within the future mountains where train tunnels would go in, I had the best experience interpreting his vision . Wait until you see the "After" : Installed landscape, finely strained decomposed granite along the train track.. Tons of trees, "boulders", Hobo camp, Boy Scouts hiking

Thank you. It makes me smile to think about the project... I have a few changes to make in the names of the trains... but otherwise... it was a joy from start to finish. Great people - great planning by the Chief Engineer... Great input.

This is the train room as the backdrop painting was taking place The tracks were laid and I protected them all the way through the process. I stood on boards between the track structures so as to avoid stepping on wiring.. down to the track light signals for the engineers, Incredible when you see the completed project .
