Description
In preparation for a painting demonstration at a museum, I needed to practice painting in the style of Birger Sandzen. The brushwork is a departure from my own, and the palette, brighter. Birger Sandzen, who studied in Paris, loved the brushwork of Van Gogh. When he accepted a teaching position in Nebraska, he ventured out West on painting vacations. His work became even more vibrant and bold. The experience of painting in this style was so exciting. I enjoy breaking away from my own style and emulating his (sans his fabulous results) . The painting was done at The Living Desert in a remote area of the park. This tree looked so graceful in its old age, and the Brittlebush was in bloom. The actual coloring wasn't far from the way I painted it.
