Painting - Acrylic On Metal Traffic Signal Box
Description
I was commissioned by the city to transform the large Traffic Signal Box on Fred Waring & Palm Royale, into a work of public art. The painting had to be light in palette to avoid drawing heat to the metal box (thereby frying the computer inside.) The design had to work around handles, vents, doors, light sensors, and appending boxes. To complete initial drawing, the manager of Silver Rock Golf Course offered me a cart to find the best location for the painting, The 17th green was ideal to portray the unique shapes of the La Quinta mountains, newer than surrounding mountains. The box has each side coordinated with adjacent sides . The colors of the mountains, sky and those in the distant were matched by painting this on site carefully going into empty streets to make sure the colors were exact The reflections, the water hazard made this the perfect image for the traffic signal box. When I paint "en plein air" my canvas is smaller and stepping back to get perspective is far less dangerous. Fortunately, painting had to be done while the metal was still cool and traffic, almost non-existent. The smaller, adjacent box has a golfer having executed his full swing.

Thank you, Michelle.. I simply had to stand taller to make sure the color on the mountains matched the mountains in the distance. This was purely a plein air painting ..

Thank you, I loved this one most. I am weak on people and animals but nature.... I can do fairly well!!. I decided to stain the concrete to blend it in with the utility box.
