The clouds parted for a few hours long enough to complete this painting of Mission San Juan Capistrano, one of the 21 early California missions, dotting the coast of California. Crowds gather each year on March 19th, St. Joseph's Day, to watch the miracle of the "Swallows" of Capistrano as they return to the Mission. The rain prevented me from finding a better composition for the painting, however the flowers were brightened by the rain, and enhanced this elegant old building.

After 30 years as a successful business woman, Maria Hunt, finding the nest empty, and having fulfilled her role as financial contributor, retired to the Palm Springs area, pursuing her childhood dream of studying and creating art. She started in 2000 with art classes at College of the Desert. She refined her skills in plein air painting by attending workshops across the U.S. The years left to get "really good" at art are diminishing, and her focus is laser sharp.
