Artist's Description
When you are unable to set up lighting to get "accurate" light and Shadow for paintings like this, you have to draw from the imagination, and perhaps memory. In painting these lemons, Illness had me confined for weeks.. and painting small works was the ideal distraction. I found the painting rather "boring," so I tried a blue background... this is where the "Oops" moment occurs. In this situation the indigo did not spread right on the antique pages. It seemed the only solution was to let the lemons be hanging from a tree and to put a moon in the sky... that worked just so far... then it looked silly... so I added splatters of "stars" and moonlight on the leaves. .. Imagination at a trot. It doesn't belong in a museum... and isn't the best of paintings... it was painted in joy... treasured, as it was taking form. Maybe it might find a home on someone's kitchen wall adding the perfect touch For these tired and worn pages from the "Cyclopedia of Universal Knowledge" printed in 188...
