In preparation for an event to raise funds for Youth Education in the Arts, I created a series of three of the nine muses, daughters of Zeus, in Greek Mythology This pen and ink drawing is of Erato. In Greek mythology, Erato /ˈɛrətoʊ/ (Ancient Greek: Ἐ) is one of the Greek Muses. The name would mean "desired" or "lovely", if derived from the same root as Eros, as Apollonius of Rhodes playfully suggested in the invocation to Erato that begins Book III of his Argonautica. Since the Renaissance she is often shown with a wreath of myrtle, holding a lyre, or a small kithara, a musical instrument that Apollo or she herself invented. The drawings are found in the Black and White Gallery on my site.
