A symbolic landscape capturing some of the Celtic culture. Scenes from my Scottish and Irish vacation. Off Glasgow was the Isle of Iona, where the Book of Kells was created. The monks would write all the Latin text, leaving room for the artwork by the Scottish/Celtic converts to add their beautiful Celtic Knots and drawings. With the raids from the Vikings, the monks feared for the safety of the writings and the "Book of Kells" was transferred to Dublin for safekeeping. The raids continued and the monastery and contents were destroyed. The book survives today in Trinity College, Dublin, and is shown in large format. I was so moved by that preservation of the art created by the Celts, that I incorporated it throughout this painting. From Castles to Trinity College, Celtic knots tie the scenes together. The original is 22"'x30" and is powerful.. Scrunched up in an 11x14 makes it look a little busy and Intense.. But it was so fun to create and I wanted it to be seen. Special...
