Description
Last in a series of our "Desert in Spring." In the open spaces around the cities of Palm Springs and Palm Desert, the morning light produces warm tones for the mountains and cool lavender shadows. The Verbena is blooming as it does after the first rain. This area outside Palm Springs is fast losing its beautiful verbena due to the accidental introduction of Sahara Mustard which is poisoning the land under it for other plants to take root. This plein air painting of the verbena was first done in oil, then a quick study in watercolor

Thank you, Sharon. I wonder if it has to do with the peaceful energy of the desert. : ) It is beautiful in the winter here, after a rain we will get these wild verbena a week or two after the rain and the desert is beautiful.
