Title
Artichoke Bathed in Red
Artist
Maria Hunt
Medium
Painting - Watercolor, Pen And Ink
Description
Green artichokes come in all sizes and shapes, flowering artichoke among the newer artichokes make a lovely contrast.
A plein air painting in an artichoke field where the acre of plants were allowed to bloom and go to seeds. Dodging the beehives, I sat in the sun, painting these complex and beautiful blooms. The added touch of pen and ink highlights the structure of the bloom. The Red background was added more recently.

Maria, this is magnificent... a masterful combination of watercolor, pen and ink with gorgeous composition and awesome rich colors. The royal red background complements the regal artichokes perfectly! F/L

Thank you so much, Nancy. The Burnt red was an after thought. I am so pleased you like it. : ))

Your ink drawing enhances the rich watercolors of your plein air painting. The varied "burnt red" wash of the background suits it, too.
