During a painting retreat just outside the city of Santa Fe, we came upon a magical area, almost glowing in the late afternoon sun. The air, still, and the sun on the dry wash, made the scene surreal: poplar trees shimmering gold, and the Autumn-blooming Chamisa bush just called to the artist within. Purple mountains contrasted with the pinkish soil throughout the wash created a scene of extraordinary beauty. How perfect to meld with the earth, to become one with the scene and capture it in a new way.
The style I was trying to emulate was that of Birger Sandzen I got closer in 4 other paintings in my gallery... all landscapes. However, none matched this magical day.
